Today we were up and out the door by 8:15 am , but not early enough. Our plan was to get to the parade grounds early to get a seat in the bleachers, but after a wrong turn that took us in the opposite direction we got to West Point around 9:45 am. Then finding a parking spot was a nightmare – finally settling down by the river in an illegal spot.
Did I mention that West Point is mostly hills so the trek up to the parade grounds way long and steep. A really nice man that works at the post office on base must have thought we looked pathetic climbing that hill because he stopped and offered us a ride to the top of the hill. What a blessing because it would have taken us at least 25 minutes to climb.
Once on top I called Ted to get a location but he was at the complete opposite end of the field and people were 10 deep. We managed to find a spot and watched the parade from a distance. Several rangers parachuted in for effect and it was really cool to watch.
The parade began promptly at 10:30 am and was very impressive to say the least.
After the parade the graduates broke formation and were allowed to go to family. We looked for our family and they us but somehow we never managed to connect. I had shut the cell off for the show and forgot to turn it back on so Ted was unable to reach us. We felt bad that we didn’t connect today but happy that we got to see the parade.
After some time looking we headed back to the car and might I say – just in time. The MP’s were out ticketing cars parked in no-parking areas. You would think they would just give it a rest for the parade and let people park where they need to. We were able to get our car and drive away before he got to us.
On our way back home we took a short detour and stopped at the Storm King Art Center set on 500 acres of land. Usual we like to check out art centers but this one left us flat.
I guess beauty is really in the eye of the beholder.
OK – After taking the tram around the property we decided this was not the art exhibit for us.
Back at the CG , I checked the cell for messages then realized I had never turned the phone back on. Ted left a message and when we talked he explained that they had been looking for us too. We felt really and that we hadn’t connected . They have the big banquet tonight so will be seeing them in the morning for graduation.
Brooke and Darcy will be arriving with their families this evening. It will be the first time I will have seen them all together in one place – ever! Looking forward to their arrivals.
