Day 12 - Palisades State Park, New Jersey

on Thursday, May 28, 2015

One of Ron’ s to do places is the Palisades State Park. So we decided to take a break from the city and head to this little piece of paradise.

True to what we have read it is a beautiful oasis on the outskirt of NYC and Jersey City with rolling hills, sheer granite  cliffs and beautiful picnic areas in the woods and on the banks of the Hudson River.

Need I mention that it was 86 degrees with sky high humidity so a real relief to be in some shade with big trees blocking the sun.

The waterfalls were barely visible so I think they are in need of some rain. The weather men have been predicting rain all week but so far not much has happened – at least in our area.

We drove down to the boat landing and got a different perspective on the George Washington Bridge.

We walked to the boat moorings and Ron got another cool picture.

We spent  a good part of the day in the Palisades but never did get to any of the ruins of the mansions that were once there. On the way out we stopped at the Fort Lee Visitor Center  and the volunteer told us that the ruins are difficult to find. That if interested there is a man who does tours in the fall.

At Fort Lee we took a short hike and were pleasantly surprised to find ourselves overlooking the George Washington Bridge from  a different angle.

There are signs posted everywhere not to climb the fence onto the steep hill. For once Ron followed the rules but another man did not. Sure enough the police arrived told him to get back over the fence, asked for his license , issued him a ticket – so now the man has to pay a fine. Indeed , all of that was posted – so glad Ron didn't break the rules  - at least this one time. LOL

On our way back to the CG I had to get a picture of the sign we ran into on our way to the CG. So here we are in our MH not really sure if this means height or width.

Fortunately we did see a truck go through so took it to mean width – it and was very tight but my excellent driver got through without a problem.

Ron took Jewel for a walk while I cooked dinner.

Ron carried her over but he wanted her to walk back – she dug in her heels and wouldn’t come. But after some prompting she conceded, unhappily.

It was another good day here in the city. Just wish it would cool off. Tomorrow  we plan to visit the Guggenheim Museum and make any other plans on the move.
