Well we are back in business with Windows Live Writer, the easiest and best way to blog.
After reviewing the subway and bus routes we decided the easiest would be the subway. We’re getting around pretty well using the PATH, subway and buses available.
We arrived at the American Museum of Natural History around 10:30 am only to find very long lines waiting to get in. I didn’t do a pre ticket purchase so we had to get in line as well. They were offering a super-saver package that included four additional venues but we were told if we bought that package we wouldn’t get to see the museum so we opted for the planetarium show.
We retrieved a map to plan out the day but it wasn’t very useful. The place is huge and like a maze.
The museum has four floors each housing incredible exhibits. We have been to the Museum of Natural History in Washington DC, but I think this is bigger and better???
There are so many different artifacts from around the world – too many to count and each unique.
We walked from room to room and were enthralled with what this museum has on display.
The Moai below was a big hit and everyone was standing in line to get a picture. And to think we were in Easter Island taking pictures with the real thing.
Later we went to the show at the Hayden Planetarium called Dark Universe.
“Dark Universe celebrates the pivotal discoveries that have led us to greater knowledge of the structure and history of the universe and our place in it—and to new frontiers for exploration.”
Astrophysicist and prolific science communicator Neil deGrasse Tyson is Frederick P. Rose Director of the Hayden Planetarium. Mr. deGrasse Tyson is an excellent presenter but has a mesmerizing voice that can lull you into an unwanted nap. LOL Ron and I tried to get through his series Cosmos : A Spacetime Odyssey but inevitably we would fall asleep listening to his voice, We hoped we wouldn’t do that at the planetarium presentation.
The presentation was excellent and I didn’t fall asleep although my eyes did feel heavy. Ron and a lot of other people fell asleep. I told Ron that we should record his voice and use is as white noise to help us fall asleep.I say that with only the deepest respect for this brilliant man. He has a beautiful voice!
Then it was back to the museum to try to get to see it all before closing at 5:45 PM.
By 3 pm we were a little hungry so stopped at one of the eating venues in the museum. We got some chicken, Ron Macaroni and I a salad, shared a drink and a dessert for $29.00 dollars. Did I mention that NYC is very expensive! The two people in front of us had two burgers, fries and two drinks for $32.00. I guess ours was a bargain.
We didn’t get to finish the entire museum because we ran out of time. So a return visit is on our list. There is so much to see and do here that one week is not enough.
We found our way back to the subway and crowded in with everyone else. Just when you think there is no more room the doors open and more people pack in. Some lugging giant packages.
We thought because it was so late the PATH to Jersey City wouldn’t be too bad but we were wrong. It was loaded as well. Then we took the 3/4 mile walk back to the MH where Jewel was waiting for us. She doesn’t like it here and can’t wait to get back home. LOL
